Can I convey what an amazing experience it has been for the True North band and True North’s fans to participate in the 94.5 Country & Golden Eagle Road to the Country Stampede Challenge? The competition and online voting was truly “all about the fans” and fans were the voice that said, “YES, we want to send this fantastic band to perform the Main Stage at the Country Stampede!” Many fans whom voted called or emailed band members during the course of the competition and stated, “I did not vote for True North because the band asked me to…I voted because of the band’s first rate music and how that original music touches my life.” What a testament to this group’s inspirational music arranging and Dr. McKnight’s song writing prowess.
If nothing else, True North is viewing the opportunity to play at the Country Stampede as a victory for original, well written and thought inspiring music…not only in the Midwest, but everywhere! True North is so excited to have the chance to perform our music and meet other artists who make a difference in the music community. It is satisfying to note that even in a down economy, people are still seeking quality entertainment outlets and True North’s music is inspirational enough to touch the heart; let people know regardless of where one is at today, a person truly can go from “Reckless to Redemption.”
The Golden Eagle Event Staff was fantastic to work with and ensured the band had every convenience from dressing rooms to bottled water. The staff, upon request, even rearranged the room seating to better accommodate fans and the dancing…which always occurs at a rocking True North show. True North was flattered by the show of support at the live band battle, 250+ True North fans attended, many were first time listeners who walked away with the True North Trifecta CD Pack (Dimestore, Dashboard & Live) and a tee shirt. We had several True North supporters donate of their time to make a new merchandise backdrop (see Flickr), merchandise packets, donate glow sticks/ bands and the band financed giving out 100 free Tee’s to the first 100 fans in the door. It was AWESOME to walk out on the stage, see a packed house, fans donning colored tees, light-up with glow sticks and dancing in the aisles!
The Set List was as follows for the live band competition:
Waiting on Angels
She Looks Good in White
Will the Circle Be Unbroken
All I have to say is True North brought it; the band settled into a grove after the first song and in my opinion, soundly defeated the competition and ‘wow’d’ our fans. I do want to say a special ‘Thank You’ to True North fans who stuck around to listen to T-Marv’s set and compare competitors. I recognize True North fans were not there to support T-Marv, but we appreciated your graciousness in listening to that entertainer’s style of music and being polite. More forthcoming about all the happenings of the Stampede…expect more updates this eveing! –Will Gladhart
